Shepherd dogs were initially used thousands of years ago to protect livestock in the Caucasus Mountains. The Ovcharka is a large breed, weighing up to 220 pounds (females can weigh up to 180 pounds) and living up to twelve years.
According to the American Kennel Club, this breed’s bold and protective nature should not be underestimated. Some breeders claim that a Caucasian Ovcharka can take down a wolf, but their strong-willed personality means they must be properly trained to avoid potential conflicts.
