This breed is the result of combining the energy and agility of a terrier with the strength and build of a bulldog. Some experts believe the rise in pit bull attacks is due to the breed’s increasing popularity. Pit bulls were bred for fighting and are often mistreated or restrained. With proper care, though, this intelligent breed can be quite social and playful. PETA has commented on fatal pit bull incidents, noting that pit bulls often suffer widespread, ongoing abuse and neglect. This may explain why this breed is frequently involved in serious injuries or deaths.
