3. Sikorsky S-97 Raider: The Next-Generation Revolutionary Helicopter
The Sikorsky S-97 Raider, currently under development by Sikorsky Aircraft, is a composite helicopter designed for reconnaissance and attack missions. Based on the Advanced Blade Concept (ABC) with coaxial rotors, this aircraft promises breakthrough performance. Its availability may be sooner than expected. In a simulated bird strike test on May 22, 2015, the S-97 reached a top speed of 235 knots (435 km/h or 270 mph). The fuel tank was also tested to ensure optimal safety in case of collision.
Sikorsky plans to offer the S-97 for the US Army’s armed aerial reconnaissance program. This cutting-edge helicopter represents a new generation of military aircraft, combining speed, agility, and enhanced safety.
